PennReady Safety Event!

On Friday, September 27th Public Safety hosted a day of activities on safety, preparedness, and community risk reduction along with our many campus partners.

The event started in the morning with a new Speaker Series component, where speakers discussed Community Risk Reduction (CCR) from 10am-11:30am.This was followed by a Health and Safety Fair from 11:30am-2:30pm. The Safety Fair included a test of the UPennAlert emergency notification system at 11:30am, followed by a special side-by-side burn demonstration at 12:30pm which showed the speed and power of a residential fire, along with the impact of fire sprinklers.

First responders were on site to share education on hands-only CPR and stop-the-bleed first aid, sharing free food and giveaways, as well as many of our  partners who shared safety and wellness information with the community. Participants and supporters included the Penn Vet Working Dog Center, Penn Dining, MERT, Penn’s Office of Risk Management, the Philadelphia Fire Department, The National Fire Sprinkler Association, Penn’s Division of Facilities and Real Estate Services, and many, many more!

Presentations on Community Risk Reduction (CRR) were conducted by leaders from Philadelphia FBI, FM Global Insurance Company and the City of Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management (OEM) offering ideas about CRR for the prevention and mitigation of crisis events. Community Risk Reduction (CRR) is a strategic process that aims to identify and prioritize local risks within a community. This enables the integrated and intentional investment of resources to reduce the occurrence and impact of these risks.*

The event was featured in an indepth article in Penn Today, the Daily Pennsylvanian, and on 6ABC News (10:50 minutes into the program).
