 Chestnut Street Bridge Closure:

PennDOT has notified the University of Pennsylvania that the Chestnut Street Bridge will close for renovation on Monday, August 5, 2019.  The bridge will be closed to ALL TRAFFIC, including pedestrians, bicycles, and cars, for approximately one year.

The closure will result in many changes to traffic patterns, signs, and signals, along with volume and detours near campus. Commuters should anticipate traffic congestion and travel delays.  Please adjust your commute accordingly.

For more information on the PennDOT Chestnut Street Bridge Project, go tohttp://chestnutstreetbridges.com/. Pedestrian, bicycle and motor vehicle detour maps are available here.

During this period, commuters should explore all available transportation options, including Philadelphia’s mass transit system SEPTA. For more information on SEPTA services and planned detours, visit the SEPTA website or visit the SEPTA Travel Center @Penn, on the first floor of the Penn Bookstore.

See Penn’s Transportation & Parking website for information on detoured Penn Transit routes as well as sustainable commuter benefits. Other transportation systems that link to and support SEPTA throughout the region that may also be affected include:

We also recommend signing up for the Division of Public Safety’s Traffic Alerts to stay up-to-date on street and transportation system closures in the area.
