Campus Fire Safety Addressed by Upcoming Documentary 9 Fires

The Division of Public Safety collaborates with many groups to support the safety and security of the community. One such collaboration connects DPS with the non-profit Michael H. Minger Foundation, which works dilligently to promote campus fire safety awareness. We are sponsoring a viewing of the movie 9 Fires on campus this fall.

9 Fires is a documentary, being produced by the Michael H. Minger Foundation (
www.mingerfoundation.org), that will highlight the impact of a series of 9 campus-related fires that happened over three weeks in January and February.  These fires include a tragic off-campus fire that claimed three lives at Marist College, a fraternity fire at Hampden-Sydney College that seriously injured a student, off-campus fires in Boston and Brookline that seriously injured more students, a laboratory fire that shut down an entire campus for a full week, and more.  This documentary will be released in September, which is National Campus Fire Safety Month, on the Minger Foundation’s web site for schools and communities across the country to use.
